Fiat will enter the world of electric micromobility with the new Topolino, the 8hp and 75km-range sibling of the revolutionary Citroen Ami, due in the UK next year.
Inspired by the name and design of the original Fiat 500, the two-seater EV was created to “make the youth fall in love with the ‘car’ again.
So, Fiat will target Generation Z buyers with an ultra-compact urban EV that focuses on easy-to-use compact urban driving.
In some markets, such as France, it can be legally operated without a full license and due to its classification from the age of 14 Quadricycle.
Part of its appeal, Fiat believes, are some of its unique features. For example, in Dolce Vita form, it could be optional without doors – with ropes attached instead – and with a retractable fabric roof (like the big 500). The Italian brand said it gives a greater “freedom” feeling.
In both forms, the Topolino is available in just one color (Vita Green) with a 14-inch wheel design and interior, unlike the more customizable Ami.
The decision will be part of a move to cut costs on the Topolino, which should see the Ami priced close to – or above – £8,095 when it launches in the UK next year.
Styling changes come in the form of smaller, rounder 500-style headlamps, faux chrome bumpers and more sculpted bodywork, giving it a less chunky look than the Ami.
The pair are clearly related, with the same exterior basic shape and almost matching micro-proportions: 2535mm long, 1530mm tall and 1400mm wide.
The Topolino – which, along with its French cousin and the Opel Rox-E, will be built only in Germany at the Stellandis factory in Morocco – sits on a skateboard-style platform and is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Front wheels. .
