Raimundo Soares, a retired civil servant, is what we would call serious people. This Brazilian citizen found 60,000 reais (about 11.2 thousand euros) buried in an ice cream container in the garden of his house and handed it over to the police.
The house, located in the northern area of Palmas, the largest city in the state of Tocantins, was bought six months ago by Raimundo to introduce his daughter, and is owned by the mother of former Secretary of State for Health Afonso Piva, who lost his position a year and months ago after an investigation by the Federal Police.
The discovery was made on Saturday, when Raymundo was cleaning the park and found a black suitcase buried. Inside, in an ice cream box, was money, in several bundles of 100 and 50 rial notes.
“I opened the box and when I saw that there was money inside, I closed it again and left it in the same place. I didn't even touch the money. I called the police so they could investigate. The money wasn't there. I couldn't keep it,” the Brazilian G1 website quoted the player as saying. With what is not mine. “I asked God for guidance and called the police.”
The case was initially registered with the Civil Police, but the investigation is now the responsibility of the Federal Police. Authorities were searching Raymundo's home on Saturday, but no more money was found. Just some envelopes and stuff that the police took.
Delegate Hyder Eduardo Martinez Pereira, in charge of the searches, said the money may be linked to an open investigation, but he did not specify who the people were being investigated.
