Iranian striker terminates contract with Porto
Mehdi Taremi was officially announced on Saturday as a reinforcement for Italian champions Inter Milan for three seasons, until 2027, two weeks after leaving Porto at the end of his contract. Scoring 91 goals and providing 47 assists in 182 games over the past four seasons, the 31-year-old striker failed to reach an agreement to renew with the ‘Dragons’ and moved to the Nerazzurri on a free transfer, ending his association with football. The team has won seven titles – the championship, three Portuguese Cups, two Super Cups and a League Cup – and he was the top scorer in the first division in 2022/23, having already shone at Rio Ave (2019/20). “I am very happy to be here. It is a dream come true and I have to say that this is the happiest moment of my life. Serie A is one of the most prestigious leagues in the world and I will try to do it. My best, as I have always done so far,” the media of Inter Milan, winner of the championship and the Italian Super Cup last season, reported.
Iran’s third-highest scorer of all time, with 50 goals in 85 games, Taremi cost Porto €4.73m in the summer of 2020, but now follows in the footsteps of the once-influential Marcano – who would eventually return in 2019/20 -, Brahimi, Herrera, Aboubakar, Marega, Mbemba or Uribe, who also left ‘the Dragons’ at the end of their contracts in recent seasons, leaving on a free transfer.
