All of this is explicitly stated in the consensus,” says the gynecologist.
How to manage hormones
Another important point in the document is the guidelines on: The ideal way to administer these hormones to enhance effectiveness and minimize risks. According to the specialist, it is currently recommended to carry out hormone therapy with hormones via a “non-oral” route, for example, through the skin.
“Most of the known risks of hormone therapy are due to incorrect administration or use of synthetic and oral hormones, and the treatment regimens used in the past,” says Igor.
According to the gynecologist, HT has some risks, but they are very small and can be controlled by following the correct recommendations also explained in the document.
Does hormone therapy have any contraindications?
According to the doctor, Uterine cancer is a potential risk for HT.It occurs due to uncontrolled development of the lining of the uterus caused by the hormone estrogen. However, to control this process, the patient is given the hormone progesterone.
“Another possibility is breast cancer, but this risk is very small: less than one case per thousand women. Therefore, the vast majority of women can undergo hormone therapy without any concerns,” he says.
Other contraindications mentioned in the document are: Decompensated liver disease, some cardiovascular and venous diseases, breast and endometrial cancer, and vaginal bleeding of unknown cause. But even these situations There are no absolute contraindications.
“Often, HT may be indicated, after careful assessment of the risks and benefits. It is important to remember that there are also risks to not using hormonal therapy, such as an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and fractures, as well as symptoms that can significantly affect quality of life.
