the Sporting’s women’s football team entered the new season in the best possible way early on Friday evening, with a “hard-fought” 2-1 win over Benfica, a result that enabled them to win the Super Cup.
In a derby match at Restelo, which was expected to be “hot”, but ended up not having many chances, the goal that cancelled the result came after 27 minutes, when Cristina Martin Brito received a long pass from Christy Ochebe. She isolated herself in front of Hannah Seibert and counted the shots.
In the second half, the Reds increased their dominance, but ended up in green and white, thanks to a well-taken strike from Telma Encarnação, in a move that was initially ruled out for irregular positioning. That decision was corrected by VAR.
However, the former Maritimo striker refused to be satisfied, and in the 85th minute sent a cross into the heart of the penalty area, where Claudia Neto appeared to ‘slam’ into the net, sealing the final score.
Sporting thus wins what is considered the third Super Cup in history (the first since 2021), which means that it equals its eternal rival Benfica at the top of the “predators” table in this competition.

Preview
Early on Friday evening, Benfica and Sporting will compete for the first title of the season in women’s football. We are talking, of course, about the long-awaited Super Cup.
The Reds come into this derby, at the Estádio do Restelo, after a “dream” season in which they won all the titles at national level, an achievement to which they also added a historic journey to the quarter-finals of the Champions League where they were eliminated by Olympique Lyonnais.
For their part, the Lionesses are looking for “revenge”, given that in 2023/24 they finished second in the Championship, the Portuguese Cup and the Super Cup, in addition to being “pressured” in the League Cup’ from the semi-finals… at the hands of the two eternal rivals.
The Benfica-Sporting match will be officiated by Teresa Oliveira, a judge from the Porto Football Federation, and you can watch it live from 8:45pm (Portugal mainland time), on the Benfica Sporting channel. Sports per minute.
