National champions Sporting drew 0-0 with fellow first division side Estoril Praia on Friday and beat second division side Torense (3-0) in their first pre-season games, both at the Alcochete academy.
In the morning training with the Cascais team, the Lions initially lined up with Vladan Kovacevic, Fresneda, Diomande, João Muniz, Giovanni Quinda, Matheus Fernandes, Morita, Nuno Santos, Pedro Gonçalves, Francisco Trincão, and Rodrigo Ribeiro, while Ricardo Esgayo was the only substitute used by coach Ruben Amorim.
The match with Estoril Praia was played over two 35-minute halves, as was the afternoon session against Torinese, with Diogo Travassos putting Sporting ahead before half-time, with Marcus Edwards and Jenny Catamo adding to the scoreline in the second half.
Diogo Pinto, Sant Juste, Eduardo Quaresma, Matheus Reis, Travassos, Daniel Bragança, Dario Essogu, Gheni Catamo, Marcus Edwards, Afonso Moreira and Rafael Neal made up the “eleven” of the “Lions”, who also gave minutes to Diego Calai and Miguel Alves.
After working in Alcochete for the first two weeks of pre-season, Sporting head to the Algarve on Saturday, where they will stay until July 24, with four more preparatory matches until their official debut in the 2024/25 season, on August 3, in Aveiro, with the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira against FC Porto, winners of the Portuguese Cup.
