SAN FRANCISCO, May 20, 2021 (AFP) – Snapchat, a popular social network among young people, said Thursday (20) that it has 500 million active monthly users, at a time of growth in different parts of the world.
The platform, which has expanded its offerings beyond its original temporary messages, hasn’t announced the number of monthly active users, but last month it said it had 280 million daily active users.
“We now reach more than 500 million monthly active users, and nearly one in two smartphone users in the US uses Snapchat,” CEO Evan Spiegel said at the opening of the Snap Partners Summit, the parent company of the series.
“In the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Netherlands, Snapchat has become an indispensable part of people’s lives, reaching 90% of youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and 75% of those between the ages of 13 and 34,” Spiegel said. . .
According to the CEO, Snapchat has grown significantly in the past year due to restrictions and disruptions due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the number of active daily users in India has doubled in the past five quarters.
“Our society outside North America and Europe is growing rapidly,” he noted. “In fact, nearly 40% of our society is now outside of North America and Europe.”
Known for its fading messaging, Snapchat has expanded its partnerships with a variety of media companies, including games, news, entertainment, and snippets of sports.
It is also known for its augmented reality features that allow users to share their content and purchase while almost testing items.
The company unveiled a series of new partnerships on Thursday, including one with the dating app Bumble, which allows users to share content created with Snapchat’s augmented reality technology.
