With the onset of the rainy season, caution is needed to avoid new cases of dengue, chikungunya and zika viruses. According to the latest Rapid Index Survey of Aedes aegypti (LIRAa), conducted by the State Department of Health (SES) in December this year, seven municipalities in Maranhão were at high risk of contracting the disease, which requires residents to be more rigorous in taking preventive measures against Mosquito prevalence.
The population should be sensitive to the forms of mosquito prevention. If adhered to, these measures will help eliminate mosquito breeding sites, strengthen preventive measures and prevent more people from contracting arthropod viruses.”
According to the LIRAa report, the municipalities of Buriticupu, São Pedro dos Crentes, Buritirana, Davinópolis, Nina Rodrigues, Peri-Mirim and Paraibano have been identified as being at risk of contracting the virus. Another 68 are classified as moderate risk and another 135 as low risk. At that time, of the 217 municipalities of Maranhão, seven had not implemented the LIRAa IV. Until the 48th epidemiological week, in Maranhao, 5211 cases of dengue fever, 1573 infections of chikungunya and 28 infections of Zika virus were confirmed in 2022.
As a way to support actions to combat arboviruses, SES is in dialogue with municipal authorities in order to establish a schedule of actions, and to promote preventive measures against Aedes mosquitoes. Among the initiatives implemented in partnership with municipalities, there is the “Day of the State Landing for the Control of Aedes Aegypti”, last December 14, in São Luís, with the aim of raising awareness in society about measures to combat Aedes aegypti.
SES directs the intensification of mobilization for the eradication of Aedes and the prevention of arbovirus cases. Among the measures, the continuation of educational procedures, home visits and inspections at strategic points and the promotion of general hygiene, in addition to the preparation of “field operational planning, LIRAa / LIA implementation calendar”, “state and municipal emergency plan, information notes”, strengthening training in epidemiological surveillance and operations field.
