The Municipality of Senador Canedo, through the Municipal Health Department (SMS), in partnership with the State Department of Health (SES), will be undertaking extensive work to combat dengue fever in the city. The event, which will take place next Tuesday (17), in Praça Criativa Jardim das Oliveiras, from 8 am, will be attended by the authorities, community health and endemic agents.
This measure is part of D-Day to combat Aedes aegypti, which transmits dengue, chikungunya and Zika. The SES project aims to eliminate breeding grounds and inform the population of habits that can be adopted to prevent mosquito breeding.
To carry out this work, agents of the community and endemic in the municipalities will be directed to the area, in order to visit homes and eliminate mosquito infestations in backyards, grounds and streets. The fire department is also taking part in the event by flying over homes with the help of drones, with the purpose of locating Aedes aegypti breeding sites.
According to Major Adriano Lorenzo dos Santos, deputy commander of the state’s Civil Defense Operations Command, the partnership with SES has been in place for a long time. This partnership with SES aims to provide support to municipalities when they need it. The teams provide support in visits when the resident refuses to carry out property inspections, in hard-to-reach places and also with the help of drones, flying over the ground in search of mosquito breeding sites,” says the major.
The Director of Health Surveillance at SES-GO, Flúvia Amorim, stresses the need for integrated action in the fight against arboviruses – dengue, Zika and chikungunya. “It is not an easy-to-implement control process, and it cannot be considered a problem for the health department only, it is a problem for everyone. It is everyone’s work that makes the difference.” Report Fluvia.

The municipality is in a critical situation regarding dengue fever, and according to SMS data, more than 4 thousand cases of the disease have already been confirmed in different areas of the city, in 2022 alone, and in March and April, there was a decrease of more than 30% in cases , from 1040 to 683 confirmations.
The decrease in the number of cases in the municipality is due to the intense work to combat dengue fever, which is being carried out by agents of endemic diseases in homes.
For Flávia Régia – Director of Health Surveillance, educational measures to identify, direct and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites are effective, however, it is essential to alert residents about the care of their homes. “This help is necessary so that dengue, Zika and chikungunya do not multiply. Set aside 10 minutes a day to inspect your garden.”
In addition, there is work that health agents and essential professionals do to combat the disease. According to Marily Gomez,
Superintendent of Primary Care At Senador Canedo, agents have greater ease of reaching homes and guiding residents who fall under their responsibility. Marelli also says that professionals have the autonomy to mobilize measures to combat dengue and can direct residents to health units if symptoms develop and a disease transmitted by Aedes aegypti is suspected.
Population participation in vector control measures has been identified as one of the main axes of dengue control programmes. For the Municipal Health Minister, Ludmyla Maranha, the task of preventing dengue epidemics is challenging, and a package of technical and social measures is needed that goes beyond the “walls” of the health sector. “We recognized that community participation could add to more effective and efficient health surveillance and control strategies.” Tell the secretary.
Integrated work between the Secretariat and the population is the most effective way to prevent disease, and the awareness of the population is growing about the necessary measures to protect themselves.
So notes Rosimaria Santos, a retiree and resident of the Jardim Liberdade neighborhood. She reports that visits are very helpful in inspecting backyards to get rid of mosquitoes. “Look, I’ve already got dengue, it’s too bad, these inspections help a lot, because sometimes we forget to wash the bowls of the animals, get the water out of the plant, throw away the garbage and when you come and alert us, we take better care of the earth” , says the retiree.
With D-Day, it is estimated that a significant portion of the area’s population will participate in the event and understand the importance of dedicating 10 minutes of their time to eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites, such as: filtering water, disposing of area trash bags, air conditioning/refrigerator trays, water tanks / Tanks / Water sediments, gutters, vegetable gardens, pots on windows and balconies, among others.
