Midfielder, who can also play at left-back, in the Premier League for €15m; sold by Sporting to Basel in 2023 for €4.6m
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have struck a deal with Basel to sign Renato Veiga. The defensive midfielder, who also often plays as a midfielder and left-back, is an under-21 international with Portugal and will cost the Blues around €15m.
The Benfica player is ranked fourth, while the former Sporting player is ranked tenth, according to the International Centre for Sports Studies.
Last summer, after being loaned to Augsburg in 2022/23, Renato Veiga was sold by Sporting to the Swiss, in a deal worth €4.6m, the biggest sale ever made by the Lions for a player who has never played for the main team. With this sale to Chelsea, the green and white SAD will receive another €1.5m, because when Renato Veiga moved to Basel, they reserved the right to receive 10% of any future sale.
In the 2023/24 season, Basel went through great difficulties, even having to compete in the maintenance phase of the playoffs, but the season was very positive for Renato Veiga, who imposed himself as the cornerstone of the team and made 26 appearances, scoring 2 goals.
