The new Switch titles that will fill the rest of 2024, in their final phase until we know their successor, will resume at the Nintendo Direct show that the company has officially scheduled for June of this year. As the dust settles on Summer Game Fest and the respective PlayStation, Xbox, and Ubisoft tours, the Japanese company only has two dates to showcase its offering: either this week or next week. Or Tuesday or Wednesday, as tradition dictates.
When June’s Nintendo Direct begins, fans are already speculating about what it will cover. The most optimistic are waiting for the premiere of Metroid Prime 4, a game that was revealed for the Switch, but has gone through development hell including changing hands and it would be surprising if it does not make it to the manufacturer’s next console. But what if Samus Aran appears with Metroid 6 in a side-scrolling remake, perhaps developed by MercurySteam just like Metroid Dread?
There are other, more conservative bets on remakes and remasters from the Gamecube era. Since Metroid Prime Remastered was such a huge success last year, it makes sense to see a less detailed collection of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to complete the Retro Trilogy on Switch. And speaking of collections, it’s been an open secret for several years that Nintendo had two cube-based Zelda games, The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, coming from the Wii U, ready for release somewhere on the calendar. Which slot is better than this? Of course, there are others who prefer to play A Link Between Worlds in high definition…
Then there are the crazier ideas: Is it time to MIA Hollow Knight Silksong after jumping through so many storefronts and becoming a meme? Will Grand Theft Auto V become a reality for Switch given the most glaring absence in its entire catalog? And with the surprise duo of LEGO Horizon Adventures and Civilization VI in the hybrid, will Microsoft take on the cursed Hi-Fi Rush or wait for Switch 2?
We at Gamereactor know there are some games in the Direct that we can’t tell you about, but none of them are in the ante-show bets. What titles do you hope to see coming to Switch for the rest of the year? What is your dream ad?
