In Wednesday’s (6) session, the Chamber approved Councilor Marcelo Lissa’s draft law establishing the municipal policy against childhood obesity, which aims to implement measures to reduce weight and combat childhood obesity in PetrĂ³polis.
Obesity is not just an aesthetic issue. Marcelo Lisa explains that excess weight can cause the emergence of many health problems.
Data show that about 15% of children and 8% of adolescents suffer from obesity problems, which can cause diseases such as diabetes, heart problems and skeletal deformities.
According to the approved text, the municipal policy to combat childhood obesity in PetrĂ³polis should develop programmes, projects and intersectoral actions that implement the right to a healthy and adequate diet, including the use of public spaces, such as parks, schools and health centers Development of policy activities.
To make this policy a reality, the City Council will be able to enter into agreements and partnerships with the Federation, the States and civil society entities. The project goes to the executive branch for evaluation.
