Casa Mendes Gonçalves, the owner of Paladin sauces, has been honoured by The Sunday Times for a product containing 100% Portuguese tomatoes.
Rubies in The Rubble ketchup, made by Casa Mendes Gonçalves, has been voted the UK’s best ketchup. The distinction comes at an important time for the company, which recently acquired a stake in Rubies in The Rubble through a joint venture.
This strategic move aims to strengthen Casa Mendes Gonçalves’ commitment to valuing tomatoes of Portuguese origin and explore the international potential of Rubies in The Rubble, a brand known for its sustainable purpose and commitment to the environment.
“We are very proud to produce the best ketchup in the UK, voted by The Sunday Times, and we are delighted to announce that Casa Mendes Gonçalves has a stake in Rubies in Rubble, as well as continuing to be the exclusive supplier. We believe this partnership will be essential to further our commitment to sustainability, the fight against food waste and the recognition of the value of Portuguese tomatoes,” explains Ricardo Ferreira, CEO of MG Foods & Care, the commercial area of Casa Mendes Gonçalves.
Rubies in The Rubble is a British sustainable condiment brand dedicated to fighting food waste, using surplus and imperfect fruit and vegetables in its recipes. Since its founding in 2012, the brand has diverted over 992 tonnes of surplus fruit and vegetables and avoided over 832 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
“We couldn’t be happier and more excited about this partnership with Casa Mendes Gonçalves. At Rubies in the Rubble, we have built a respected and purposeful brand, and we look forward to making an even greater impact through our partnership,” explains Jenny Costa, founder of Rubies in the Rubble.
