After the drop in cases of Covid-19, a new strain of influenza, the well-known flu, is terrifying health workers at RMVale.
The H3N2 variant – first recorded in 1969 in Hong Kong – underwent a resurgence this year in Australia and recorded, in early December, thousands of cases in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
RMVale lies between the poles, and has also recorded an increase in cases of the disease in recent weeks. In São José, the city council confirmed that between the 13th and 19th centuries, the city recorded a 9% growth in cases of influenza-like illness – from 1,265 to 1,379.
In Jakkari, the number of people seeking hospital care with symptoms of illness has doubled in the last 15 days.
Although the municipal councils have denied the existence of an epidemic or outbreak of the disease, cases are not reported, due to the similarity of symptoms with Covid-19, such as fever, cough and sore throat.
Experts point out that flu vaccines are a way to combat it, however, the immunizations applied this year to fight the viruses that spread in 2020 have been done and in some cases, as in São Jose, the flu vaccines have been exhausted.
Although most symptoms are mild, doctors note that cases of the flu can progress to severe acute respiratory syndrome. Thus, the recommendation for prevention is social isolation and mask use.
