According to officials, access to electricity still does not reach 50% of the Mozambican population and the government’s goal is to bring energy to the entire population by 2030. One of the challenges to achieving this goal is renewable energies.
The British government said it would support Mozambique in climate-resilient infrastructure and energy transition.
“The Energy for All program provides electricity access to all Mozambican households that still do not have access to electricity, nationwide. Through the President’s initiative, all administrative positions will be empowered by 2024, which will allow access to energy from 35% to 60% by 2024 and 10 million Mozambicans will have power for the first time,” said Minerals Minister Carlos Zacharias. The money paid is for the “Brilho” project, which has been implemented across the country and has already given 1.3 million people access to electricity and thermal energy.
It is worth noting that last week, President Philippe Nyusi inaugurated the Photovoltaic Center of the Mapulanguene administrative post within the scope of the National Energy for All Project (PROENERGIA) in Makute District, Maputo Province. ), which aims to guarantee more Mozambicans access to energy.
It is a power plant with a network extension of about 7 km, a power generation capacity of 100 KW, with a funding of more than 79 million from the state budget, for the first phase of the project, about 209 connections are expected. Mostly for houses.
