The Municipal Health Department of Batatais (SP) reported on Saturday (6) that it had received the first confirmation of a positive case of monkeypox in the municipality.
According to the municipal authorities, a man who specializes in health works in the city, but is from Ribeirão Preto (SP).
According to the city council, the patient is in a stable clinical condition, with mild symptoms and few injuries, and he was monitored, as well as people close to him.

The Health Department advises the population to notice symptoms of the disease, especially skin lesions, and in the case of traveling to places with confirmation of the disease, and to go to the health unit in case of suspicion.
In the region, in addition to Batatais, Ribeirão Preto (SP) and Sertãozinho (SP) have also confirmed cases of monkeypox.

Despite the name, the viral disease does not originate in monkeys, it was first identified only in these animals. Transmission can occur through contact with an infected animal or human. The main symptoms are:
- Fever
