The municipality of Mira in the Coimbra region said in a press note that the municipality of Mira “has long expressed concern about this infrastructure”, having indicated its willingness to “take on the work and any costs” that were not protected by operational programmes. The release was sent to Lusa Agency.
The application, with a value of €1,822,398.00, has been submitted for the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR).
After work between the Regional Health Department (ARS) of the Center and the City Council, a project aimed at intervention in the Primary Health Care Unit (UCSP) in Mira was developed.
The interventions aim to reclassify the existing building, with respect to its “active behaviour”, in addition to other issues, with the aim of improving the “quality of health service delivery”.
For the mayor of Mira, this is “excellent news”, because the municipality “did everything” in order to approve the candidacy and carry out the work.
The mayor noted that the health center in the village was opened about 35 years ago and has never undergone any rehabilitation work, so this intervention is “of vital importance to this structure”.
“These works are essential, but they are also necessary to fill the shortage of doctors, because, as is known, there have been many departures of professionals who have retired and it is necessary to urgently strengthen the medical staff, so I am already, together with the responsible authorities, to request maximum brevity to solve this situation,” confirmed Raúl Almeida, quoted in the same note.
The municipality of Mira also indicated the need to rehabilitate all the sanitary extensions in the municipality (Carapelhos, Praia de Mira and Seixo), in order to “improve these infrastructures that are decentralized and highly used by the population”.
The municipality has already identified all investment needs, particularly in terms of energy efficiency, accessibility and user convenience.
For the Chamber, the contract for the rehabilitation of the health center is a “very important” investment, similar to the works for the rehabilitation of the secondary school and the extension of the Polo 1 industrial zone and the industrial zone of Montalvo, which are under implementation and which, it has been preserved, are the “Municipal Development Regulators”.
