With over a decade of experience in international cooperation, Professor Maria Bueno takes over as Head of the British Embassy in Minas Gerais. The first woman to hold the position, she replaces Lucas Browne, who left the post in September.
MarĂa Bueno holds a PhD in Public Law, with an emphasis on International Law, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas (PUC Minas) where she is also a professor, one of the people responsible for the institutionalization of the University’s Technological Innovation Center. Currently, he also works as an undergraduate professor at Ibmec BH and has direct experience in the dynamics of international cooperation at UNESCO in Paris.
“Throughout my career, I have always been deeply devoted to the art of diplomacy and facilitating international cooperation. That is why I welcome with great enthusiasm the privilege of protecting the interests and heritage of the United Kingdom in Minas Geras. As a native of Minas Geras, this is a great opportunity to strengthen our historic ties with the British.” says the new head of the British Embassy.
In the Government of Minas, Bueno held the position of Head of the National and International Cooperation Council at the State Secretariat for Economic Development from February 2019 to January 2020.
Head of the British diplomatic mission in the country, he says he will work to maintain the UK’s support for sustainable development and decarbonisation agendas, focusing on implementing the commitments made by the state during COP26 in the UK.
