Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa responded, this Tuesday, to Marta Temido’s resignation as Minister of Health.
The President of the Republic confirmed in a statement, “that he was informed by the Prime Minister, earlier today, of the intention of the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, to stop her duties, a position that she accepted.”
“The President of the Republic awaits the formalization of the application for resignation, as well as the proposal to appoint a new holder, in accordance with the provisions of Article 133 of the Republic.
The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, submitted her resignation this Tuesday because she understood that she was “no longer able” to exercise the position, a resignation which Prime Minister Antonio Costa accepted. “The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, submitted her resignation today to the Prime Minister, as she realizes that she can no longer stay in the position,” read the memo sent to the newsrooms by the ministry.
A few minutes later, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said that Antonio Costa had “received the resignation of the Minister of Health”. And the Prime Minister’s office revealed, “respects his decision and accepts the request that he previously informed the President of the Republic.” Antonio Costa thanked “all the work developed by” Marta Temido, “especially in the exceptional period to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.”
