Brasilia – President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva He paid a thoughtful tribute to Queen Elizabeth II during the Queen’s coronation King Charles III, in London last weekend. When meeting the monarch, during her first meeting with Elizabeth 17 years ago, Lula wore a pin in her jacket lapel with a decoration inherited from British royalty.
The Brazilian president wore a red pin with three golden crowns on his suit. The standoff also appears in pictures of his meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Downing Street, the first official engagement of his visit to the UK capital.
Instead of the Brazilian flag or something representing that country as is customary on some diplomatic occasions, Lula used only the British honors, at the reception and coronation given by Charles III to heads of state.
The symbol represents the Order of Knighthood, founded in 1725 by King George I. The Honorable Order of the Bath (Bathing routine, in English) is one of the most traditional of the monarchy, the fourth oldest military line. It takes its name from the 14th-century medieval creation ceremony of the Knights and involved a cleansing bath.
In March 2006, Lula was decorated by Elizabeth as a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Bath. At that time, he stayed at Buckingham Palace at his invitation. As a gift, he received a box containing the Grand Collar of the Order of the Bath, a piece of gold metal with enamel detailing. Three years later, he will meet Queen Elizabeth again during the G-20 summit in London.
