The two candidates for the leadership of the Conservative Party meet, in the United Kingdom, on Wednesday evening, in the last debate before the election. The event concludes a race that began nearly two months ago when Boris Johnson resigned.
The two-hour debate will be open only to conservative activists. Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak met several times during the election campaign and the crisis was the most frequently mentioned topic in their conversations.
The response to the economic and social crisis differentiates the leadership candidates from the Conservative Party. While Liz Truss is calling for immediate tax cuts, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak favors boosting support for the poor and lowering value-added tax, accusing her opponent of owning a fictional economy.

However, the latest polls indicate the favoritism of Liz Truss. The 47-year-old is compared to Margaret Thatcher and leads between 22 and 38 percentage points in the latest opinion polls.
Billionaire Rishi Sunak, 42, who was considered the front-runner, lost momentum throughout the campaign. The two last met last week in Norwich. Measures adopted during the pandemic caused by Covid-19 have dominated the topic of conversation between the two.
On Wednesday, at the final debate in London, Truss and Snack will answer new questions from Tory fighters. It is they who choose, until Friday, the new leader of the party, who will also take over as prime minister, to replace Boris Johnson.
