Airlines use stereotype in video ad for flight to Brazil
Virgin Atlantic, one of the UK’s biggest airlines, announced a flight to Brazil on Monday (5). From 13 May 2024, there will be daily flights between London and São Paulo.
Filled with clichés, the ad claims that Brazil is “the birthplace of samba, caipirinhas, beaches, natural beauty and rich historical architecture.” Check it out in the video above.

There’s no comment in the video: Brazilian actress Juliana Pius Champa wears carnival props and her body is on display. Smiling, he wanders among the passengers, in a festive atmosphere with glitter, confetti, masks and emotional gringos.
Cultural errors such as the use of wood money were also pointed out. Although there are records of their use by native Brazilians, maracas are most commonly associated with Latin American dances from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela.
In a sober mood, Juliana Pius responded to a netizen who questioned her participation in the video. She says: “Kkkkkkk this was done a long time ago, before the pandemic! The recording was really funny, the script was a joke, but… what?! 😅” Watch below:
Rio’s mayor Eduardo Pius joked:
“Understood? They fly to Sao Paulo but sell Rio. With all due respect, this @VirginAtlantic should be sued for false advertising! But I still have ‘fearful hope’ that Minister @marciofrancasp will let the Gringos go straight to where they are. Go. And then, of course. , stop by the lovely and wonderful São Paulo with an air shuttle from Santos Dumont to Congonas!”.
