At the end of last year, Apple confirmed the new iMessage Contact Keu verification feature. This new functionality allows users of the iMessage platform to validate their keys, to ensure communications are not compromised at some point.
At the time, the company referred to this functionality as an add-on to ensure more security for communications made within its platform. At the time, the company revealed that it would launch “in 2023,” leaving no more concrete details as to when that might happen.
Now, it appears that more details are known. A few weeks after the start of WWDC 2023, it seems that Apple should present this new system along with iOS 16.6. according to RumorsApple started shipping iOS 16.6 Beta this past weekend, with some users confirming that the feature is now available — albeit in a limited way.
Although the function appears in the system settings and iMessage, it doesn’t seem to have an effect in the end – so there are still some points that need to be corrected before arriving in the final version.
It must be remembered that this system, in addition to allowing users to validate the key to a conversation, will also automatically notify them if their contents have been tampered with or there is some kind of intermediary in the conversation.
This is expected to be one of the last new features to appear in iOS 16.6, before the company starts focusing more on iOS 17.
