UKMTO, a maritime security agency under the authority of the UK military, said “the captain of a merchant vessel reported that a missile had struck the water near a missile vessel” off the coast of Aden, southwest Yemen.
“The crew is safe and the vessel is proceeding to the next port,” the UKMTO added, without specifying whether the vessel was damaged or not.
Today, the Israeli military said a ‘drone’ “crashed off the coast of Eilat” where air raid sirens were activated.
The ‘drone’ was accompanied by “soldiers [israelitas] The incident occurred throughout and did not cross the Israeli border,” Israel Defense Forces said.
During the incident, an interceptor was fired at the drone, the army added.
Since November, the Houthis have carried out dozens of drone and missile attacks against shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, disrupting global maritime trade in this strategic area.
Yemeni rebels, allies of Iran, say they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians following Israel’s October offensive against the Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Houthis, who have yet to claim responsibility for today’s attack, have previously launched ‘drones’ and missiles at Eilat.
Today’s Strikes Dwight D. Eisenhower left after an eight-month deployment in which the aircraft carrier led the U.S. response to insurgent attacks.
Faced with attacks, the US, Israel’s backer, created a multinational force in December to protect shipping in the Red Sea and launched strikes against rebels in Yemen in January with the help of the UK.
But the attacks have not deterred the Houthis, who have begun targeting ships linked to Israel as well as American and British ships.
On Tuesday night, rebel military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sari said the attack on the MSC Sara V, a Liberian-flagged container ship operated by a Greek shipowner, took place on Monday.
The Houthis used a new ballistic missile that would allow them to hit a target about 450 kilometers off the Yemeni coast, further away than the group’s previous attacks, Saari said.
