The head of the Liberal Initiative, Rui Rocha, defended on Monday that health problems can only be solved with the equal participation of private providers and the social sector.
In Braga, at the end of a meeting with the city hospital management, Rui Rocha also accused the government of “planning” the reality of the health sector and warned that problems cannot be solved with plans or strength point.
“Health is a critical situation for the Portuguese, where we understand that there is only one solution, which the government has not yet wanted to adopt, which is to reach the solution on an equal footing, creating the idea of competition, private sector providers and social sector providers.”
For the liberal leader, until this solution is chosen, Portuguese with fewer resources will “remain tied” to a National Health Service that does not respond to them.
He added: “There are five million Portuguese who solve their problems with health insurance or ADSE, and the others, who do not have resources, are linked to an SNS that does not solve their problems and this is a great concern.”
For Rui Rocha, the plan presented by the government for emergency rooms in the summer is not working, as “there are 40% more closed emergency rooms” than last year.
“It is not enough for the government to plan and present plans, it is not enough to start planning above reality. The government must come down to reality and health is a fundamental area for the Portuguese and an area in which the government works. He concluded by not achieving results in certain areas.
Referring specifically to Braga Hospital, Rui Rocha said it needed to expand facilities, as the current ones were “no longer sufficient,” and more human resources.
