Kamala Harris, the White House candidate and US Vice President, promised on Monday to make the fight for abortion rights in the United States a central part of her presidential campaign against Donald Trump.
“We will fight for reproductive freedom, knowing that if Trump has the chance, he will sign a ban on abortion to make it a crime in every state,” the Democrat said in her first campaign speech after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
Assuming she went through “fluctuations” in emotions after Biden’s decision, Harris assured her supporters that she would win the November 6 election.
“Over the next 106 days, we are going to make our case to the American people and we are going to win,” Harris said during a Democratic campaign rally in Delaware. “It’s been a roller coaster ride and we’ve all been overcome with a lot of emotion mixed with respect. I have to say, I love Joe Biden.”
He then turned his arguments against Trump and his supporters, calling them “predators” and “scammers” who prey on consumers for their own gain. He noted that he was the first former president to be convicted of a crime.
Referring to her past as California’s attorney general, she was highly critical of Trump.
“In this role, I have met criminals of all kinds,” he said. “Believe me when I say that I have known men like Donald Trump.”
