MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, December 17, 2021 (AFP) – Manchester City’s Spanish coach Pep Guardiola had to cancel a press conference ahead of Friday’s Premier League match after receiving an inconclusive test result for the coronavirus.
Guardiola must wait for the result of the PCR test before knowing if he can lead the “Citizens” in their away game against Newcastle on Sunday.
This is one of five Premier League matches still scheduled for this weekend, after a series of postponements due to the outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the UK.
Guardiola’s last public appearance was on Wednesday, at the farewell press conference for Argentine striker Con Aguero in Barcelona.
Guardiola, 50, who lost his mother to the coronavirus last year, urged players and people to beware of a spike in cases.
“I am worried, not because we will cancel or boycott the tournament, but because the virus is in the community and people are suffering,” the Catalan coach said earlier this week.
“Some people, the team is here, as well [com o vírus] Right now, we’re talking to players almost every day and asking them to be careful, stay safe, stay healthy, (wear) masks and find social distancing.”
