Today, the Ministry of Health confirmed to Lusa Agency that the Director General of Health, Graça Freitas, whose term ends at the end of this year, has expressed her desire not to renew her appointment as guardian.
The news was brought forward by the Observador newspaper and confirmed to Loza by a source from the General Directorate of Health and the Ministry of Health, who said that “the tenure of the position is certain until it replaces it.”
In the written response sent to Lusa, the Ministry, led by Manuel Pizarro, thanked the “availability shown by the Director General of Health at the end of her term and all the commitment and dedication of the leadership of the Directorate General of Health over the past few years, from a special method in responding to the epidemic, which is the biggest crisis global public health in the last century”.
The ministry said that the appointment of the future incumbent for the position of Director General of Health will follow legal procedures, in accordance with the rules for recruitment, selection and holding senior management positions in the public administration.
“It is natural that the selection is made within a file that fits within the framework of the terms of reference of the General Directorate of Food Security, as the responsibilities of the National Health Authority in responding to health and public health emergencies have always been present,” reads the response.
