A reference in the management of high-risk and treatment of premature babies, the Dr. Jurander do Nascimento State Hospital for Women (Hemu) provided 251,721 visits in 2023 – partial results as of October – including hospitalizations, examination consultations and surgeries.
The state government unit, which is a reference for patients from Goiás and other states, contributes to the training of new specialists by offering medical residency programs in the fields of neonatology, obstetrics, pediatrics, ultrasonography and obstetric nursing residency. This year, the hospital has 54 residents.
“In addition to offering an exclusive service to women with high-risk pregnancies and their children, with a regional reference in medium and high complexity, we strive to serve each patient with distinction, in an ethical manner and appropriate to her individual needs,” says the Secretary of State for Health, Sergio Vincio.

Hemu has a multidisciplinary team trained to go beyond the technical aspects of treatment and deliver care with acceptance, understanding and respect. The methodology results in faster and more satisfying recoveries.
The Unit has a Humanization Committee, made up of a participatory and deliberative group of professionals from different fields, which develops procedures that humanize care for patients, families and staff.

The hospital also has a Human Milk Bank (HMB) for premature and low birth weight newborns. From January to October this year, BLH received donations from 1,178 donors, benefiting 1,212 children.
The Reference Center for Special Immunobiology (CRIE) is also located in the Hemo Unit and is a service serving people with chronic diseases who require special vaccines. From January to October of this year, CRIE provided 26,233 doses of vaccines.
