At a press conference at the end of today’s cabinet meeting, the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, Duarte Cordero, said that this plan would be detailed “soon” after other members of the government proposed changes.
“This plan has three dimensions,” he said, explaining that it will be mandatory implementation for the public administration and a “recommendation for the local administration and the private sector.”
Among the proposals approved today are “measures to reduce electricity consumption in the event of facilities stop working, reduce decorative lighting hours outside normal working hours” and increase temperature control inside facilities.
The official stressed that “there is no measure to reduce working hours,” but only measures that include “turning off the internal or external lighting from a certain time” in the buildings and determining the times of external lighting, specifically during the Christmas period. As well as “maximum temperatures in winter and minimum temperatures in summer.”
In a statement, the government indicated that “extraordinary and temporary measures have been approved for reporting information and ensuring the security of gas supplies, as well as preventive measures to secure energy supplies.”
In addition, “the National Energy Saving Plan, which focuses on demand management and consumption reduction, has been approved,” and “through these measures, it aims to achieve 5% savings in gas consumption, in addition to the 20% reduction achieved in Last year, except for the consumption of gas used in the production of electric power.”
