An initiative that the French capital’s municipality considered an “environmental deviation.”
The French government today confirmed the authorization of experimental air taxi flights during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an initiative that the French capital’s city hall considers an “environmental deviation.”
The authorization is valid for the period from July 26 to August 11, in the time period between 08:00 and 17:00 and air taxis will not be able to charge for flights, even without a positive visa from the European Aviation Safety Agency.
If the services are sold, they will cost between 105 and 140 euros.
The electric-powered, two-seat aircraft, including one for the driver, is manufactured by the German company Volocopter, which owns the “Volocity” model.
Three lines are planned, one of which is the link between a barge next to Austerlitz train station and the Issy-les-Moulineaux helipad.
The Paris City Council calls the initiative an “environmental aberration” and is considering going to court to stop it.
“This government does not have the legitimacy to go against what the municipality has decided,” said Councillor David Belliard.
