The French tableware brand known for its amber color and promise of unbreakability is up for sale again, after being bought by Maison Française du Verre three years ago for €3.5 million.
Duralex, the French cutlery brand known for its amber color and unbreakable promise, is once again in difficulty for the fourth time this century, El Economista writes, after being “pushed forward” by the Covid-19 pandemic. In the process of activation try to avoid being closed.
The company was bought in 2021 by Maison Française du Verre for €3.5 million, in the latest rescue of the French glassmaker. Now, just three years later, Duralex has begun a new legal process to sell it again. It is now up to the court to find a buyer, after appointing representatives and an official to visit the factory and prepare the necessary information that will then be provided to potential buyers.
The company’s sales, which are present in 33 countries and export 75% of its production, were affected by the economic crisis in 2008 and then by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, as Le Monde wrote at the time, production suffered a 60% decline, with exports severely affected.
The newspaper says that the company went through a crisis again between 2022 and 2023 due to the rise in energy prices, which forced it to stop production for five months, adding that Duralex was able to emerge from the recent crisis thanks to the support of the French state. Which granted a loan of 15 million euros.
The authorities were confident that the glass manufacturing company, whose dishes are sold in Portugal, would be able to restore its activity with the decline in gas and electricity prices, which did not happen.
