The delta type of the new coronavirus, which was initially detected in India, is still not circulating in the city of São Paulo. The information was provided today (14) by the Municipal Health Minister, Edson Aparecido.
“More than 30 days ago, on Monday, we shipped 250 positive test samples for Covid-19 collected from across the city. With these tests, genetic sequencing is carried out by the Butantan and Adolfo Lutz Institutes as well as the Institute of Tropical Medicine. The past, the study of all these tests that were sent to these institutes has been completed, and we currently have no circulation of the Indian type in the city of São Paulo.
Since May, the city of São Paulo has intensified its studies to monitor the emergence of new variants in the city. The Municipal Health Department is mainly concerned with this variant B.1,617 (delta), which has caused an increase in the number of cases in India and some other countries.
So far, the study in São Paulo has shown that the P1 variant, which appeared in Manaus (also called Gamma), is the predominant type in the city: more than 97% of samples tracked between April and May correspond to this variant. . The rest is consistent with other variants, such as the one shown in the UK. In March, P1 made up 79% of cases traced in the capital.
