With an acceptance rate of ICU beds at around 90% due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, Federal District Governor Ibañes Rocha today (1) announced the appointment of 100 doctors and 800 nurses. and nursing technicians to enhance the service.
Also today, 362 nursing technicians were called. It is expected that after submitting the documents, the professionals will start work on February 9.
According to the Ministry of Health, last year 177 doctors, 131 nurses and 140 nursing technicians were temporarily appointed.
Governor Ibanés Rocha on his Twitter account highlighted the importance of hiring these new workers. “With the arrival of these professionals, we hope to ease the difficulties that the population faces in the service,” he explained.
The Federal District government also announced that it will allocate 86 beds in various hospitals in the capital to take care of COVID-19 patients. The occupancy of beds in intensive care units for covid-19 has reached 91.5%, according to a bulletin updated at 11 a.m. today.
Another measure to try to ease beds and allocate them to Covid-19 patients is to reschedule elective surgeries, which is the name given to those procedures that are not urgent and can be scheduled for another day.
