Companies will have the opportunity to visit the national supercomputer Deucalion, located at the University of Minho, in Guimarães. This initiative is part of the Open Knowledge Day (DAC), organized by the Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (IAPMEI), the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and UMinho.
The event will be held on May 22 at the Azorim University campus. The conference, titled “The Role of Supercomputers in Digital Transformation and the Competitiveness of Institutions and Companies,” aims to inform and raise awareness among the business community, especially small and medium-sized companies, about the potential of supercomputers in green and industrial fields. Digital transformation.
Furthermore, the aim is to provide information on the mechanisms of companies’ access to supercomputers to develop artificial intelligence models, in line with the European Strategy for Enhancing Competitiveness, which aims at the effective and accelerated launch of more innovative and technologically advanced products.
The DAC program includes interventions from UMinho Vice President for Research and Innovation, Eugenio Campos Ferreira, IAPMEI President, Luis Guerrero, and FCT Vice President, Francisco Santos. Next, a Deucalion presentation will be given, by Francisco Santos (FCT) and Rui Oliveira (UMinho), highlighting the importance of supercomputers in the green and digital transformation of companies.
A roundtable entitled “The Role of Supercomputers in Digital Transformation and Competitiveness of Companies and Organizations” is also scheduled, with the participation of Antonio Souza (UMinho), João Nuno Ferreira (FCCN/FCT), Luis Sarmiento (Inductiva AI) and Rui Pinheiro (Fujitsu), Managed by Jorge Saraiva (Grupo Três60).
The event will conclude with a guided tour of Deucalion’s facilities, which opened in September 2023 and have the capacity to perform 10 million billion calculations per second.
