the Britney Spears’ father filed a court order last week for the singer to continue paying her legal expenses, in this case attorneys’ fees, even though the guardianship he exercised over the artist expired in September, according to Variety.
Meanwhile, Britney’s lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, has already responded to Jamie Spears’ request, condemning him for spending “millions of dollars” on Britney while exercising guardianship, even though this money is the “fruit of the work” of the pop princess.
“The regency has been terminated and Mr. Spears has been shamefully suspended,” he noted in notes to page six.
“Using these circumstances, his request is not only illegal, it’s abhorrent. Britney testified about the pain her father had caused and it only made matters worse. A father who loves his daughter doesn’t.”
Jamie claims in the application that “payment of legal fees is necessary to ensure that guardianship ends quickly and efficiently, allowing Britney to regain control of her life once again.”
“It would be against public policy that Jimmy’s years of dedication to his daughter…could go bankrupt,” the application in question read.
The Times estimates that Jamie made about $6 million over 13 years by taking 5% of his daughter’s earnings.
