“whoever it is [o sucessor]”I’m sure he’ll make some more announcements in September and October about what we’re going to do in the next period, December and January,” Boris Johnson explained, according to the BBC.
“I want you to know that I am confident that we will have the financial power and the free space to look after people,” the still-government leader said during an event in Downing Street.
Liz Truss, the current foreign secretary and candidate to succeed Boris Johnson, promised to cut taxes, while former finance minister Rishi Sunak wanted to give subsidies to the most vulnerable families.
However, from the Labor backbench, Boris Johnson was accused of leaving a “political vacuum” without making decisions, asking Downing Street to take over and make proposals before the end of the prime minister’s term.
Shadow Secretary of State David Lammy criticized the executive for not acting in the face of high energy prices.
“There’s this political vacuum as people worry and grieve and struggle to deal with this crisis,” he said.
“There’s a lot to do, but with the disputes in the Conservative Party right now, a race between candidates, a prime minister from nowhere… an answer is now,” he concluded.
