Bitcoin – Satoshi Nakamoto
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been released from a UK prison after making a deal with authorities in the US. Notably, Assange spent 1,901 days in prison, over 5 years.
WikiLeaks is an information leak site founded by Assange who worked as a journalist. Notably, it was one of the sites that accepted Bitcoin donations in the early years of the cryptocurrency.
At the time, Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto asked Assange not to do this because the cryptocurrency network was still small and it would attract unnecessary attention at the time.
“It would have been nice to get this attention in any other context. WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet’s nest and the swarm is heading our way,” Satoshi said.
WikiLeaks X Profile Released:
“Julian Assange is free. He walked out of Belmarsh Maximum Security Prison on the morning of June 24 after spending 1,901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and released in the afternoon at Stansted Airport, where he boarded a flight to England.
Under the deal, Assange will face trial for conspiracy to obtain and disclose US security information. However, the sentence for the charges had already been served in a UK prison.
Stella Assange, the journalist’s wife, celebrated the release:
“The important thing here is that the contract stipulated a prison sentence – if he signs it, he can go free. He will be a free man once the judge approves it, which will happen tomorrow.
