Abel Ferreira spoke on Monday about his future at Palmeiras – his contract expires in December – and confirmed he was analyzing the renewal proposal. While there is an insistence on the alleged interest from Benfica, he says the decision has been “made” and the answer will be given first to the players.
The Portuguese coach gave an interview to the Brazilian channel TV Cultura in which he talked about his future.
“You know that I am here in Brazil without my family. I’m here on my own. My family here are the players. They will be the first to know of my decision. It is true that I have a proposal with Palmeiras for the renewal. I had a chat with Layla [Leila Pereira, a presidente] on Friday. There was an official proposal. A very honest front-end conversation, the way I like it, between me and Layla,” he said.
“What I am today here in Brazil, I owe to the players, because we built a real team. My decision was made, but I will tell them first. I walk by conviction and not in the name of the club. A, B or C. The only thing I want is a club that fights for Titles, Palmeiras fighting for titles. I want to be in a club that loves me as much as I want the club”, he emphasized, noting that the separation from the family would be decisive:
“It is impossible to stay for another two or three years without a family. Either I go or they come … Palmeiras wants a lot, and I really like Palmeiras. I spoke to my wife and said: I will stay only if you come, otherwise I will not stay ».
