Benfica coach Roger Schmidt was completely satisfied after the match with Rio Ave. The team played well, winning (4-2) and the coach avoided several pieces, some of which did not even play.
“We are very happy, sometimes these matches are not easy after the Champions League. We made some changes to the team but we played good football and created a lot of chances and we are happy in general. It relieved some of the players, it was good for us”, He began by saying in an interview with Benfica TV.
On the turnover, he was clear: “The road is long and it’s clear to me that all the players here deserve to play for Benfica. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit longer, especially at the beginning of the season, but everyone had a positive approach and today they showed their quality” .
And I downplayed the early goal for Rio Ave. “It could happen, they scored but we showed that we are confident and the fans showed that they believe in us. At half-time we already had a good advantage”, he confirmed.
And already in the press room, he was asked if it would be the best exhibition at that time, and it was clear: “No, it was not the best. There are many things to improve. It was a good match, but it wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t the best.”
