FifthSeveral major supermarket chains have recalled chicken contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria from France, at the request of the Ministry of Economy. At stake are Netto, Auchan, Intermarché and E.Leclerc, the last three of which operate in Portugal.
According to the government websiteRabel Konso', several packages of chicken wings and legs are collected. Anyone who has purchased the specified items is advised not to consume, return or destroy them.
The French government informed anyone who consumed the chicken meat in question and “suffers from an isolated fever or accompanied by a headache and body aches to consult his doctor and report this consumption.”
He adds: “Sometimes, severe forms with neurological complications and damage to the mother or fetus can also occur in pregnant women. Pregnant women, as well as people with weakened immunity and the elderly, should be especially alert to these symptoms.”
Hey News by the minute The supermarket chains concerned have inquired to find out whether the quantities in question are sold in Portugal and whether similar measures will be taken, but so far, this has not been possible.
According to the General Directorate of Health, “Listeriosis is a disease resulting from an infection caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, the transmission of which is linked to the consumption of contaminated food.”
Symptoms include Fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle painWhich can last between 5 to 10 days.
In general, it is a disease that is “not difficult to treat and the infection may disappear without treatment.” “However, for some groups, contamination with these bacteria may represent a greater risk and cause more serious effects of the disease with complications at different levels,” adds the General Directorate of Public Security.
At-risk groups include people with weakened immunity, pregnant women, newborns and the elderly.
