The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) recently carried out a nationwide inspection operation, called “Operation Panis”, targeting economic operators in the bakery and pastry sector who manufacture their own products.
The aim of this measure was to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards, licensing of the activity and verification of mandatory information on product labels.
ASAE reported in a statement that during the operation, it inspected a total of 74 economic operators, which led to the initiation of 28 administrative violations. Among the main violations discovered were: non-compliance with general and specific hygiene requirements, lack of technical and functional conditions in manufacturing facilities, absence of a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, which is a mandatory system to ensure food safety, and non-conformity in the labeling of pre-packaged products, such as cakes.
As a result of these violations, the ASAE Association ordered the suspension of the activities of six economic operators for not complying with the required hygiene requirements.
ASAE confirms that it “will continue to carry out inspections” throughout the national territory, in accordance with its powers, with the aim of protecting food safety and the public health of consumers, as well as ensuring fair and equitable competition between economic actors.
