For the average user, diagnosing potential hardware issues on your device can be a rather complicated process. However, Google wants to make this process easier by integrating device diagnostics in Android 15. This will allow the user to know if their smartphone has a fault before taking them to technical assistance. This is in addition to privacy options such as Repair Mode provided by Pixel and some other brands. In other words, in practical terms, Android 15 will include service technicians.

The diagnostic tool was spotted on devices by Android Authority in the latest Android 15 Beta 3. The option is not available by default, but can be enabled. Once you have it, you can access it by going to Settings > System > Device Diagnostics.
The on-device diagnostic tool has two main display items: “Component Status” and “Evaluation Mode”. The Component Status section allows you to perform manual tests on your phone/tablet. Evaluation Mode, on the other hand, lets you evaluate your current device using another device.
Starting with Component Health, it includes tests for screen health and touch performance. It also allows you to check the current status of the battery and storage chip. Regarding the battery, it displays data such as the percentage of remaining capacity, date of manufacture, date of first use, and even the number of charging cycles.
There are also entries for “Serial Number” and “Part Status”. These don’t seem to be working currently. Then, in the case of storage, you can check the remaining life of the storage stick as well as its total capacity.
Moving on to Evaluation Mode, it is a test in which you will have to use another supported device. The process begins with scanning a QR, and some tests require internet access.
Useful for discovering problems before going to technical assistance
Overall, the on-device diagnostic tool for Android 15 gives you a good idea of your device’s hardware status. For example, it can help you detect potential issues with dead pixels, light leaks, or discoloration on displays. Additionally, find out how healthy your battery is. It should be noted that there are some third-party applications that perform similar tests. However, having a tool built directly into the operating system is a welcome addition.
