Sporting coach wondered about the absence of Botti and Trincao
Ruben Amorim was asked on Saturday about Roberto Martinez’s decision to take only one Sporting player, Gonzalo Inacio, to Euro 2024, leaving Bute and Trincao out. The Sporting coach acknowledged that “there is always a little hope” and stressed that the players were not affected by their lack of presence on the national coach’s list. He explained to them what they should do.
“The players are smart, they know when they are about to be called up or not. There is always a little hope, but they knew who was going to be called up. They are young boys and they know that football changes from one day on.” “On to the next one,” said the Sporting coach.
He explained: “With regard to the national team, it is difficult to remove a player to replace Sporting players and the opposite applies as well. We must be clear with the players: it has nothing to do with timing or stages – Bot and Trincao were not chosen because the choices were different, the way is for them to become better players.” There is no need to think that they have to change clubs to join the national team… What they have to think about is becoming better players, “defending better, scoring more…” A new life will start after that. They cannot hide behind reasons Otherwise, the coach simply prefers other players over them.”
