Care for Aedes aegypti should be doubled during the summer, as this period shares short-term and heavy rains, which, combined with high temperatures, helps to increase mosquito breeding sites.
It is also important to be aware at this time of year, due to the extended vacation period for residents. For those who travel, it is essential to make a checklist to avoid the accumulation of standing water in homes and backyards.
According to Mayra Rodrigues, nurse from the Environmental Health Education Program of the Environmental Watch Center Special (GEVS), there are simple measures that residents can take in homes to get rid of stagnant water sources that are effective, and contribute in a critical way to mosquito control.
“All care is essential at all times. Routine situations, such as removing accumulated water from backyard waste, washing animal bowls well and removing water from plant dishes, and keeping them clean, contribute to mosquito control,” Mayra Rodriguez said.
