This week, the Angolan Economic and Social Council (CES) presented a proposal aimed at declaring the income of politicians and public managers.
In defense of its proposal, CES notes that the agreement with Doing Business, published by the World Bank reveals that Angola ranks 177th in a table of 190 sites and is in the World Economic Forum’s ranking of 136th, in a list of 141 countries.
“It is important for the development of Angola’s economy. It is not a question of publishing income in Diário da República, but rather of allowing it to be publicly consulted”, defends CES.
In June last year, the Public Prosecution Office opened at least seven investigations against businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, the daughter of former Angolan president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, on suspicion of various economic and financial crimes.
According to the “Observer”, the latest of the seven investigations is based on the rogatory issued by Angola to request judicial cooperation from Portugal that led, in March, to the arrest of shares owned by Isabel dos Santos in companies.
