We still have a few months to go before the launch of the iPhone 16 range, but rumors of a breakthrough iPhone for 2025 may already be stealing attention from Apple’s launches in 2024. Recent information from The Information, citing sources directly involved in the project, reveals that Apple is working Actively developing a radically thinner iPhone model.
A radically thinner and perhaps more expensive iPhone 17 is coming!
While we had previously reported on a slim version joining the iPhone 17 lineup, the latest information points to a more ambitious vision. The ultra-thin iPhone, codenamed D23, is designed to be a completely new product, just like the iPhone X.
The iPhone It marked the beginning of a new design language for iPhones. This ditches the home button for the OLED display and introduces facial recognition using Face ID.
iPhone design has remained relatively constant since the launch of the iPhone 11 range five years ago. While Android manufacturers tend to change the design of their smartphones every few years, Apple has preferred a more frequent approach. This way we can have a new design language for all future iPhones.
The focus on thinness comes after Apple recently unveiled the new iPad Pro as its thinnest product yet, measuring just 5.1mm thick. According to the information, Apple is still exploring several designs for the thinner iPhone. One possible configuration includes an aluminum body with an improved front camera. Also a set of sensors with a smaller aperture and a pill-shaped opening.
Another possibility is to move the rear cameras from the upper left corner to the top center of the back of the phone. Regarding the screen size, the information indicates that the screen will likely be between the 6.1-inch diagonal of the regular iPhone and the 6.7-inch diagonal of the iPhone Pro Max.
It will be interesting to see how Apple positions this model in its lineup. Will it simply be a more expensive, thinner version of the Pro Max, or will it offer some new features that set it apart as a unique device? Will it simply be called the iPhone 17 Slim or could it lead to an entirely new “iPhone Ultra” series?
