Public news agency Agencia Brasil reported on Tuesday evening that Judge Raúl Araujo, of the Supreme Electoral Court, decided on June 5 to annul the ruling against Bolsonaro and former Minister Walter Braga Neto.
Araujo concluded that another Supreme Court justice, the now-retired Benedito Gonçalves, was wrong to convict the politicians before the end of the process, using the court’s first conviction to justify the decision.
The judge said that this decision could constitute “an insult to the defense and a widespread contradiction, because the investigation in the current procedure includes more witnesses, more documents and more investigations,” without Bolsonaro and Braga Neto being able to respond.
The former president of Brazil was convicted for the first time in June 2023 by the Tokyo Stock Exchange Supreme Court on charges of spreading false news to attack the electronic voting system, a ruling that made him ineligible for eight years.
In November, the TSE Supreme Court again found Bolsonaro guilty of abuse of political and economic power and misuse of the media, in a case linked to the celebrations of the bicentenary of independence, on September 7, 2022.
The court also condemned the government’s permission for tractors owned by pro-Bolsonaro farmers to participate in a military parade and then participate in a massive rally for the former president.
The celebrations were held in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro and were paid for with public money and broadcast on Brazilian television.
Bolsonaro also faces several legal proceedings, one of which is linked to alleged coup plans to prevent the inauguration of the current president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, whom he defeated in the 2022 elections.
The former Brazilian president is also being investigated for allegedly seizing jewelry he would have acquired when he was president, which according to the law should have been included in state assets, and forging Covid-19 vaccination certificates for you and your family. Girl.
