The Red Frog bar, in Lisbon, won for the first time a place in the prestigious list, “The 50 Best Bars in the World”, becoming the first Portuguese bar to be recognized among the 50 best bars in the world, reaching 40th place.
Founded in 2015, on Rua do Salitre, in Lisbon, by Emmanuel Menez and Paulo Gomez, Red Frog, inspired by the secret bars that appeared in the United States in the 1920s, during Prohibition, already has a history of incorporating the global list of the 100 best bars In the world, being the only national tape to appear in the coveted list.
The award was unveiled at the Awards Ceremony, Tuesday, in Barcelona.
The Red Frog duo were present at the event, already with the fitting definition of the award-winning red scarf, and firsthand experienced this important moment both professionally and personally. The ceremony, which was held for the first time outside London, was the highlight of a week of initiatives dedicated to celebrating the work done in the sector, in one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cocktail capitals.
“We opened the doors of Red Frog with the aim of joining The World 50 Best Bars. More than just an ambition, for its media impact or an increase in bookings, entering this list has been to set standards for quality, innovation, creativity and consistency with which we want to guide our work,” says Emmanuel Menez. Co-founder of Bars Red Frog and Monkey Mash in a statement: “We couldn’t be happier with this goal!”.
Paulo Gomez adds that “this award contributes to increasing the visibility of the detailed work we have developed at Red Frog, both on a technical and experimental level, where every cocktail we add on the menu has a story to tell,” he says in the same statement.
In addition to the “50 Best Restaurants in the World”, a list dedicated to catering, the “50 Best Restaurants in the World” also features five dozen venues scattered around the world.
The jury for these awards is made up of over 650 experts from the global cocktail scene (with a 50/50 gender balance), with votes from 28 regions around the world.
The voting process is independent and audited by Deloitte.
