On Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs announced that Portugal will send 12,000 vaccines to East Timor on the 19th of this month, as part of the donation already planned for Portuguese-speaking countries.

“We addressed the ongoing cooperation programmes, particularly in relation to the pandemic, and I thanked the Minister for the unprecedented way in which he supported us in 2020 when we had to carry out air operations to repatriate Portuguese nationals who were in Timor-Leste, and then in air operations that facilitate the return of these Portuguese to East Timor.”
At the end of the first official trip abroad in her current duties, the Minister of Timor-Leste confirmed that “several areas of cooperation were discussed, including political coordination and the areas of education and culture.”
According to Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno, one of the Asian country’s priorities is “that Portugal can continue to support language teaching and the quality of education in East Timor”.
The Portuguese government has committed to allocating 5% of the vaccines that Portugal buys to Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) and East Timor.
